ACS has a long history of basketball team 2015 first game wininvolvement in team sports. The school has fielded teams in basketball, volleyball and track. Enrollment and student interest determine which teams the school fields in the respective sport seasons. For example, in the 2010-11 season we were able to field a girl’s volleyball team for the 7th and 8th grade league and a boy’s basketball team which played at the 5 & 6 grade level.

ACS has participated in the renowned Crescent City Jaycees Tourney, local school tournaments and our own Annual Cougar Classic tourneys in volleyball and basketball.

The ACS girl’s volleyball teams have captured the North Coast Athletic League Championship in 2000, 2005 and 2009.

ACS Principal, Ron Wunner, founded the NCAL league (with much help from Mark Smith and Lori Wunner) and served as NCAL League Director from 1999 through the 2009 season. NCAL schools include both private and public schools in the area including, ACS, St. Bernard Catholic School, Freshwater School, Fieldbrook, Blue Lake, Trinidad and St. Mary’s Catholic School. Ron coached at ACS for many years and now serves as the school’s athletic director and NCAL representative.

Our school has one of the finest gymnasiums in Humboldt County and our tournaments are highly acclaimed by participating schools.

Parents are welcome to assist in the athletic program in a variety of ways including: helping to coach, scoring table help, refereeing, snack shack, tournament set up and clean-up, etc.

ACS is committed to building strong character in our students and our sport teams exemplify the highest standards of good sportsmanship.
